CARDIOVASCULAR - WEIGHT CONTROL

Maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of protecting your heart and circulation. It can help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and lessen your chances of developing heart disease or having a stroke.

After a cardiovascular diagnosis or event, gradual and sustainable weight loss may reduce strain on the heart, improve mobility and support recovery. Small changes to meals, portion sizes and everyday activity are usually more manageable than strict diets. Speak to your GP practice before making major changes, particularly if you have existing health conditions or take regular prescribed medication.
