A fresh look at Health

Mental health is an important part of a young person’s overall wellbeing. Growing up brings many changes, including pressures around education, relationships, family life, social media, work, identity and the future. At times, these pressures can feel difficult to manage. It is normal for young people to experience periods of worry, low mood, stress or uncertainty. However, when these feelings become persistent, overwhelming or begin to affect everyday life, it is important to seek support.
Talking to someone can be a good first step. This might be a parent, carer, trusted friend, teacher, college tutor, GP or another health professional. Support is also available through local and national mental health services, charities and online resources. The links on this page provide information and advice for young people, parents and carers. They include guidance on anxiety, low mood, stress, self-esteem, sleep, relationships and getting help when things feel difficult.
If you are worried about your own mental health, or about a young person you know, you do not have to deal with it alone. Early support can make a real difference and help people find practical ways forward. Everyone experiences worry and stress, but extra support may be needed if these feelings do not go away. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAHMS) is available to help young people up to 18 years who are struggling with emotions, relationships, behaviours or their personal development.
