Care Home Visits

Ear health support for residents in residential and nursing care settings.

About this service

Good ear health can make an important difference to a care home resident's comfort, communication and everyday wellbeing. A build-up of earwax can affect hearing, making conversations and social activities more difficult.

Earworx provides professional ear checks and, where clinically appropriate, microsuction earwax removal for residents of residential and nursing homes.

By visiting residents in familiar surroundings, we aim to make appointments convenient, comfortable and reassuring. We work closely with care home managers and staff to organise visits that meet residents' individual needs.

Our practitioners take time to explain their findings, obtain appropriate consent and treat every resident with patience, dignity and respect.

How our care home visits work

Initial ear checks

Care home managers can contact Earworx to arrange ear examinations for residents or staff. We ask for an approximate number of people wishing to be seen so that we can agree a suitable appointment date and organise the visit efficiently.

During the visit, our practitioner examines each person's ears, explains the findings and advises whether any further treatment or medical assessment may be needed.

Preparation for microsuction

If earwax removal is recommended, some residents may benefit from using an appropriate earwax-softening preparation before treatment. Our practitioner will explain what is suitable and provide instructions where required.

Ear drops or sprays are not appropriate for everyone, so preparation will be recommended according to individual clinical circumstances.

Return visits and treatment

Where microsuction is appropriate, Earworx can arrange a return visit to carry out treatment using specialist portable equipment.

Appointments can be organised so that several residents are seen during the same visit, helping minimise disruption to the care home's daily routine.

Charges and group bookings

Residents normally pay individually for their own treatment. Care homes arranging appointments for several residents can enquire about any group booking discounts or other current arrangements.

All charges and arrangements will be confirmed in advance, so residents, families and care home managers understand the costs before treatment is agreed.

Arranging a visit

Whether you manage a residential or nursing home, work as a care professional or are concerned about a family member's ear health, our team will be happy to discuss the available options.

Questions about care home visits

A manager or care professional can contact Earworx on 07935 392965 with the care home location and approximate number of residents who may need ear checks. We can then discuss a suitable date, practical arrangements and charges.
Yes. Visits can be arranged for several residents, subject to each person’s needs, suitability and consent. We will discuss scheduling with the care home to minimise disruption to residents and staff.
The initial visit usually focuses on assessing the ears and explaining the findings. If microsuction is appropriate, preparation and a return treatment visit may be recommended. We will explain the arrangements before treatment.
Not necessarily. Some residents may benefit from a suitable wax-softening preparation, but drops are not appropriate for everyone. Individual advice will be given following assessment and in discussion with care staff where appropriate.
We explain the examination or treatment in a way the resident can understand and seek valid consent. Where someone has difficulty making a particular decision, we follow the relevant consent and capacity requirements and work with the appropriate care team. Treatment is not undertaken simply because a relative or care home requests it.
Residents normally pay individually for their care. Care homes can ask about group booking arrangements or any current discounts. We confirm costs and payment arrangements before appointments take place.
